METRIC EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TEAM ACTIVATED AFTER WINTER ICE STORM IN SOUTH CAROLINA COLUMBIA, SC – After a devastating ice storm rocked South Carolina in early February, Metric’s Emergency Management Services department was activated by the South Carolina Department of Transportation to manage the debris removal monitoring for an originally estimated one million cubic yards of debris created by the storm. Upon activation, the Metric team responded immediately. At the peak of the operation, Metric hired close to 500 temporary employees to tackle the massive project, which stretched across the counties of Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, and Edgefield.

Over the course of the project, close to 284,000 hazardous hanger and leaner trees were addressed, and in addition, close to 2 million cubic yards of debris was removed in efforts to bring South Carolina back to a fully recovered state. The project has been an immense challenge logistically and otherwise, with extensive coordination between local government, FEMA, and other stakeholders. Thus far, Metric has received high praises from the South Carolina DOT, as all parties work towards successful completion of the project.
