July 17, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Miriam Benitez, wife of Metric founder, Victor Benitez, and grandmother of Metric President and CEO, Veronica Benitez, on July 11th, 2025.
From Veronica Benitez –
My grandmother, Miriam Benitez, passed away peacefully on July 11th, surrounded by her family. She was the heart of our family, our quiet strength, our safe place, and a steadfast example of faith.
Born in Cuba, she married my grandfather, Victor Benitez, at 18. They began their life together in Rochester, New York, and later settled in Miami, Florida, where they raised four children, one son and three daughters. She is survived by my grandfather, the founder of our company, her three daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She now joins her beloved son and her parents in heaven.
From the early days of building Metric, she believed in my grandfather’s vision and gave him the love and encouragement he needed to carry on, no matter how challenging the journey. Her support wasn’t just emotional; it was the foundational. Their almost 65-year marriage was rooted in deep mutual respect and devotion. In their partnership, he found more than a spouse; he found a true partner whose steady encouragement and belief helped carry him forward.
There are countless memories I could share, but one moment stands out. In 2012, when my uncle Alex was hospitalized and told he had only days left, he looked at my grandparents and pleaded, “Please don’t let me die.” I remember them holding him, saying that if they could take his place, they would. It was heartbreaking. I couldn’t fathom the pain and helplessness they must have felt in that moment. Later that day, I asked my grandmother if she was angry at God. She looked puzzled at first, then hugged me and said with complete peace: “How could I be angry at such a wonderful God? This isn’t His doing. He gave me my son for 50 beautiful years. I’ve had a blessed life with your grandfather, my children, and my grandchildren. How could I possibly be angry?“
That simple act of faith changed me, and I pray to be the same example of faith that she was. Now, as a parent myself, I am even more in awe of the grace and faith she showed, not turning to anger or despair, but to gratitude. That was her: full of grace, gratitude, and love, no matter what life brought her. That’s how I want people to remember her. Her faith never wavered. She always found beauty in life and made each of us feel seen, safe, and loved.
She will be deeply missed, but her love will stay with us forever. I hope to carry the same set of values she lived by into the future of our company and the legacy of our family for generations to come.
With all my love,
Veronica Benitez
President and CEO
