Metric Engineering Expands into Texas with Strategic Senior Appointments

Miami-based transportation and civil engineering firm broadens footprint in Texas with key executive hires Shawn Bertram, P.E. as Senior Vice President and Maria Nelson as Vice President to lead Texas growth

AUSTIN, Texas (January 6, 2026) – Metric Engineering Inc., a transportation and civil engineering firm headquartered in Miami, Florida, solidified its expansion into Texas with the appointment of Shawn Bertram, P.E. as Senior Vice President, Texas Division, and Maria Nelson as Vice President, Texas Division.

Bertram will lead the firm’s Texas operations and oversee strategic growth, client development, and infrastructure delivery across the state. A fifth-generation Texan, he brings more than 24 years of experience delivering complex civil infrastructure projects for cities, counties, state agencies, and private sector clients throughout Texas. A licensed Professional Engineer, Bertram has built and led multidisciplinary teams of more than 300 professionals and has overseen transportation, drainage, water and wastewater, recreational, and community infrastructure projects.

As part of the expansion, Metric also announced the appointment of Maria Nelson as Vice President, Texas Division, based in San Antonio. Nelson brings 15 years of experience across public and private infrastructure markets and has established strong regional partnerships throughout South Texas. She was recognized as a San Antonio Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree, is a member of the Leadership San Antonio (LSA) Class 43, and served on the steering committee for LSA Classes 45 and 48. Nelson currently serves as President of SMPS San Antonio and as Vice-Chair of the CPS Energy Community Input Committee.
