Two PD&E Studies performed included the preparation of an EIS to improve I-395 (from I-95/Midtown Interchange to Biscayne Bay) and a Cat EX II to improve SR 836 (from NW 17 Avenue to I-95), including the SR 836/I-395/I-95 interchange. The project involves realignment, capacity and geometric improvements to SR 836 and the reconstruction of I-395. After more than 20 years of community opposition, and extensive public involvement efforts (including establishing the Overtown Outreach Center with more than 2,200 visitors and 150 presentations), the team successfully gained community consensus and LDCA.
- The team received an award from FDOT for exceptional public outreach and was invited by the Transportation Research Board to present the public outreach effort in Washington, DC.
- Metric was also involved in the I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project (on-going). This high-profile project involved the construction of a new signature bridge for I-395 in downtown Miami, double deck on SR 836, access ramp modifications, and substantial improvements to the Overtown Neighborhood including the Heritage Trail community resource underneath I-395. Metric performed the re-evaluations of the SR 836 SIMR and I-395 IMR and environmental documents (CatEx II and EIS) including a full comparison and analysis of RFP vs. DB concepts as well as permitting, ITS, MOT Traffic Monitoring, and the roadway design of the surface streets.
